Despite being relatively tech-savvy, this motherboard was used in the first PC I built from scratch. During that process, I learned three things everyone should know.

    1) If you put an AMD Ryzen 5 or newer processor (mine was originally the 5500 and I swapped it to the 5500 GT), then you need to flash the BIOS. Even if you did everything correctly, you could still be missing monitor output. As scary as it sounds because people have bricked their MOBO before, flashing the BIOS isn’t especially difficult. All you need is a spare 8GB Flashdrive that you can reformat. I won’t go through the full list of instructions, but there are plenty of tutorials out there.

    2) This is an optional step, but I /highly/ recommend getting a CPU with integrated graphics (remember, I swapped from the 5500 to the 5500 GT). It costs a little more money, but it can make the initial Windows install and driver updates infinitely easier. If the BIOS is flashed, then the CPU should work. If the CPU works, and you have integrated graphics, then you can do the entire setup process and have a much easier time troubleshooting any GPU problems you could encounter.

    3) I ran into very, very weird compatibility issues with one of the off-brand RX 580s you can find on Amazon (hence recommending integrated graphics for troubleshooting). The GPU worked, but it only worked when I slotted it into my PC I’ve had since 2019. It never worked on this motherboard. I slotted a random, old GPU I had sitting around (9500 GT), and it DID work on this motherboard. Despite using the other GPU to install Windows and drivers, I could never get any display output using that RX 580. That said, I wouldn’t blame the motherboard for issues with an off-brand component originally manufactured 7 years ago. Ended up shelling out an extra $60 to get an RTX 3050 just to get something from a reputable company.

Your mileage may vary with this motherboard, but so long as you have integrated graphics, buy a reputable GPU, and are willing to learn how to flash the BIOS (which isn’t bad at all on this motherboard), then you’ll probably get an amazing value.

    PROS:
I used this motherboard because I wanted a cheap one, but this one came with plenty of features that more expensive motherboards didn’t have! It is really good, and a fantastic motherboard for the price. It has 4 slots for RAM, 1 slot for a graphics card, 2 slots for M.2 drives, 4 SATA connectors, and plenty of connections for USB (2.0 and 3.0), fans, and rgb or argb lighting affects. There are also plenty of ports on the back, including a HDMI and DisplayPort ports, and INCLUDED wifi and bluetooth. A nice touch is the heatsinks…and all this from a known brand: MSI. Strongly recommended.

    CONS:
For all the great benefits, my only complaints are these: The integrated wifi is very slow, so I use a NETGEAR USB wifi antenna. The bluetooth is great though. My second issue is that the lighting controller for MSI products, MysticLight, refuses to work. Not sure if it’s a software thing or a hardware thing, but MSI’s integrated light system is finicky and a pain to work with.

Nice Motherboard for my budget build, support for AM4 processors out of the box, BIOS is really intuitive and has a lot of configurations.

Included phisical manual is bad, but the one available in MSI official site covers all your questions regarding ports and how to connect things.

Everything I connected worked really well.

I really like that the BIOS has advanced and easy mode, so if you are a noob like me you can understand things easily just in easy mode, and I guess advanced mode can allow advanced users to modify details they way they like

Got 2 of these now, first one was for replacing an old ASROCK motherboard , the second one was for a brand new build.

It is excellent, it is a quality product. To do a mid-range build or configuration, it is the best option in quality and budget. I would buy it again if I wanted to build something similar… It comes with all the accessories, antennas included, and better yet, it retains the old VGA port which for some reason if you don’t have a newer monitor is an acceptable option.

I have a love/hate relationship with this mobo. Once it’s set up, it works like a dream!

It comes with a very basic BIOS which doesn’t allow it to operate much at all. To get it up and running, you need to install the latest version of BIOS from a flash-drive. That means that you have to have access to a working computer that you can use to download the latest BIOS onto a flash-drive before you can upload it onto the mobo. It was a complicated process for this novice, but now that I’ve done it, not so very difficult after all!

The next problem was that the mobo won’t access my old HDD’s because it operates UEFI protocol. According to the manual, which I had to download onto my phone (!), the protocol can be switched to accept other versions, but my initial attempts have been unsuccessful. I therefore had to download Windows onto a flash-drive, via another computer, and upload it onto the mobo.

Because the mobo is cutting-edge, it has 2 iSSD ports. I had bought a 1TB iSSD as part of the build and the installation was fairly straightforward, but fiddley.

And now the ‘love’ bit!!! The build powers up in 15 seconds and powers down in 5 seconds. The in-built WiFi works well, even though one of the antennae is loose – I’d have to take the mobo out of the case to tighten the nut!

Although I’ve not given it a stern test, it performs all the ordinary tasks effortlessly and shows every sign that it could allow my R5 CPU to fly!!!

One last thing; the BIOS for this board isn’t on the MSI UK list – you have to get it from the MSI US list!!! As I said at the start – a love/hate relationship!!!

If you’re looking for a decent-priced, Micro-ATX-sized B550 motherboard with built-in WiFi and Bluetooth, then look no further!
This one has everything you need to get started. I’m using it paired with the Ryzen 7 5700X, and the experience has been good so far.
Built-in WiFi and Bluetooth work just fine. The I/O shield was a bit difficult to adjust, but that’s not really an issue.
On the software side of things,. Well, you’ll need to have MSI Center installed. At least that’s as far as I understood. I don’t really use it, to be honest, since it’s a bit buggy. I’ve just set my preferred color for the ARGB light bar (white) and turned off the auto update along with auto start to prevent it from ever starting again (after updating everything to the latest version available at the time). Have no problems after doing that.
What else to say? Well, I’m pretty happy with it.
