Getting this set up was not too difficult. The hardest part was figuring out how to set up a WireGuard VPN to my home pfSense router, but once I got that figured out it connects and works perfectly. Setting up WireGuard to my VPN provider WindScribe was considerably easier. With that done, connecting to hotel wifi was easy, though it did me little good since the hotel tv HDMI port was disabled so I couldn’t use my Google TV (which was 90% of the purpose of getting this in the first place). The next place I set up was an Airbnb and I was able to connect directly to an ethernet on their router, and everything worked perfectly. Next was another hotel with the wife. This time the TV HDMI port was accessible, but the hotel had capped bandwidth to 15Mbps so I had to turn off the VPN to get any kind of usable speed. That said, turning VPN on and off couldn’t be easier – the mysterious little switch on the side can be configured for VPN, slide it one way and you’re protected, slide it the other way and you’re open. The router settings make it easy to select which VPN to connect to as well – I have one for connecting to home, one for Windscribe to my home city, and a third for Windscribe for not my home city.
All in all this is a great little travel router. Whether you want to be protected on the go with VPN, be able to connect back to your home network via VPN, or just be able to connect your devices to a single known wifi network wherever you go without having to add every hotel wifi to every phone and device you bring with you, this is a great solution.

Et fonctionnement stable. Utilisé comme répéteur pour une caméra wifi. Fonctionnement ok depuis 2 mois

Klare Empfehlung!
I Like Stuff –
I’ve been using the GL SFT1200 router for a bit now, and I have to say, I’m seriously impressed. From the moment I unboxed it, it was almost a plug-and-play setup. I had it up and running within minutes, and accessing the admin control panel through the web interface was a breeze. If you’re not super tech-savvy, don’t worry—it’s incredibly user-friendly. You won’t get lost in the process of setting it up.
What really makes this router stand out is the sheer number of settings and configurations you can play around with. It’s packed with customization options that let you fine-tune your network just the way you want it. Whether it’s setting up a guest network, parental controls, or VPN configurations, it’s all here. I haven’t seen this much flexibility in other routers I’ve used in the past. It’s perfect if you love to tinker with settings.
Despite its small size, this router is a beast. It’s surprisingly powerful for something so compact, and it handles multiple devices with ease. Streaming, gaming, and working from home haven’t posed any issues. One thing to note, though—it does run a little warm, but nothing that seems to affect performance. I’ve read other reviews mentioning this too, so it seems pretty normal.
The range and signal strength are impressive considering the size, and the portability factor is another big plus. You can easily take this with you if you need a strong, secure connection while traveling.
In short, if you’re looking for a router that’s powerful, customizable, and super easy to set up, I highly recommend the GL SFT1200. It’s got everything you’d want in a router, plus some features you might not even know you needed until you have one.

If you’re interested in networking, it’s fun to have one of these around just to play with, let alone the benefits it offers if you travel often. It runs OpenWRT behind the scenes with a nice, custom GUI overtop. Not only can it act as a Wi-Fi repeater, it can go from Wi-Fi to ethernet, ethernet to Wi-Fi, and act as a small switch.
It has built in support for multiple VPN types, including Wireguard, which is by far the best protocol these days. It’s very fast and easy to set up, with connecting to the Wireguard peers happening very quickly after activation. You can set the switch on the side to do all sorts of things, including turning your VPN on/off. It also has built-in support for Tor, so you can have a separate Wi-Fi network connected to Tor if you want.
You can also directly access the OpenWRT GUI behind the scenes, and you can install all sorts of different networking software packages. I’ve barely tapped into the stuff this thing can accomplish, and I’m already very satisfied with the price. I think if you want to install a lot of the software, you’d maybe want to find one that has more Flash built-in, but even this model has enough to install and play around with quite a bit. You can SSH in and get access to the Linux system running everything, which is oodles of fun and just begging to be customized.
If you just want to play around with networking without messing with your main access point or router, this is a great device for that. If you travel often, you can easily set up a Wireguard peer on your home network which you can then connect to from anywhere in the world, allowing full access to your home network devices and also encrypting your traffic when using untrusted WiFi or LTE/5G. With an external USB LTE/5G modem, it can also connect to the internet that way, but you can also tether your phone to it and still route all your traffic through the VPN. Every businessperson who travels and stays in hotels should have one of these.

I recently purchased this unit, and I’ve been thoroughly impressed with its performance and features. As someone who values flexibility and control in their network setup, this device is truly a powerhouse. It’s not just your average router—it’s packed with advanced capabilities that make it perfect for tech enthusiasts and professionals alike.
Why I Like This Unit:
One of the standout features for me is its OpenVPN access, which allows for secure and private browsing. Setting up OpenVPN is incredibly straightforward, and it works seamlessly, giving me peace of mind when using my network across various devices.
Additionally, I love the ability to install apps like Docker using Luci, which is part of the OpenWRT backbone. OpenWRT provides a level of customization and control that’s hard to find in most consumer-grade routers. With Luci’s web interface, it’s easy to manage and install a wide range of apps and services. I’ve been able to set up Docker containers and manage them directly on the device, which opens up so many possibilities for automation, networking, and even running lightweight server tasks.
Pros:
– OpenVPN access for secure browsing and remote access
– OpenWRT-based, giving full control over network settings and software
– Luci interface makes app installations like Docker easy and user-friendly
– Excellent Wi-Fi range and solid overall performance
– Compact design with reliable heat management
– Great value for the amount of advanced features it offers
Cons:
– May have a slight learning curve for beginners not familiar with OpenWRT or Luci
– Initial setup can take a bit longer due to the extensive customization options
– USB ports could benefit from faster speeds, but they are adequate for most uses
Conclusion:
In summary, this unit is an absolute gem for anyone looking for more than just a simple router. The combination of OpenVPN support and OpenWRT’s flexibility really sets it apart from the competition. The ability to install apps like Docker through the Luci interface opens up a world of possibilities, making this device much more than a router—it’s a highly customizable network hub.
While there may be a slight learning curve for those unfamiliar with OpenWRT, once you get the hang of it, the potential is endless. The pros far outweigh the minor cons, and for the price, you’re getting an incredible amount of features that are typically only found in much more expensive devices. Highly recommended for anyone looking to take control of their home or office network!

I took this on Princess Cruise and was able to share a single device plan with multiple devices including children’s iPad. The speed is fast enough and you don’t need the latest, greatest WiFi-6 or 7 router because the bottleneck is usually not the router while you are on a cruise for example. Basically, the procedure is boot up the router and then use your phone to login to the router, and then use the router to find the Cruise ship Wifi and then configure Internet access from there as usual. Since the Ship’s Wifi only “sees” the MAC (hardware address) of the router, it locks to that MAC address instead of your phone’s MAC address. works seamlessly as long as you are in range.
It also worked well in a hotel setting because I don’t need to configure every device to connect to the hotel Wifi. Many hotels now restricts how many devices you can connect and this router may be an answer to overcome number of device limitation by hotels.
The only major pain is not the fault of the device, but when you get outside of the range of the device, you lose WiFi and may have to connect to hotel WiFis. It’s a major inconvenience but should be expected. Overall, a solid device without breaking the bank and it more than paid for itself on a single cruise.

Altamente recomendado!

When traveling this is a good router to bring along. There is no app so that’s one missing star. The login to settings is easy and well thought out. You can save many locations on here unlike the cudy router. USB works in your car . Downside didn’t come with options to buy international plugs for power but you can just plug to any USBC connection. Don’t need any more than this since it’s a travel router. 5g is a waste with most hotels speeds capping out at 50mbs or so.

Actually kinda blown away by the capabilities of this travel router. I admit, I wasn’t really aware of the GL.iNet brand and was assuming this would be junk, especially at the extremely affordable sale price I managed to snag this at. Boy, was I wrong! This cute router packs a punch and includes an intuitive firmware with an incredible amount of settings and customizations for several different use cases.
I was particularly impressed by being able to connect incoming ethernet, a wifi-signal, and a tethered phone as sources, and then being able to assign the fallback order if one or more of them are disconnected.
The unit is so compact and travel friendly, I’ve been able to power it for several hours with a USB power bank.
The built-in WireGuard and OpenVPN functionality is something I didn’t know I wanted but now that I’ve set it up I love it!
