Sega Genesis 2 Console Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Bundle Pack

Back when you didn’t need the internet to have fun. Totally awesome!!! Got it today. I order it almost a week ago at the last minute. Works well no connection problem with a smart tv, I have a TCL smart tv and was able to hook it up easily the game cartridge came slightly damaged but nothing wrong with the game itself. It is only a cosmetic feature anyway the artwork was slightly damaged. No actual game box. I was looking forward to ripping that box open for a load of fun as if it was the 1980s 1990s again. My game ( Sonic two ) works well no problem with game controller or anything else. All power supply and hook up came with it. Overall id buy again.

The console turns on but that’s about it.. no picture no nothing I’m very disappointed in this I need answers on how I can resolve the issue

Overall good but with a few minor issues. The good is that this is authentic and in good working order, and when I bought it I felt like it was priced quite reasonably. It was packed carefully. However, I did not receive quite what I expected. I thought there were supposed to be two controllers rather than one, and while the listing currently is clear about only one being included I’m not certain that was always the case; the currently displayed price has changed since I placed my order, so maybe the description did, too. But because of how the description reads now I don’t know if it was listed incorrectly or if I simply misunderstood what was being offered. The controller that did come was sticky to the touch, and was very difficult to plug into the console. I don’t remember the fit being so tight, but hey it’s been years. I received no manual and no box for the game cartridge, but I was sent a Sonic 2 cartridge that plays well and there are only two cords so you don’t really need a manual to set it up, or at least I don’t. The line to the television I received was a set of AV cables rather than the coaxial cable that originally would have come with the machine. So overall I am quite pleased with the purchase and I don’t regret it, but it wasn’t -exactly- what I expected. The cords were in great shape and the console doesn’t look beat up and plays the cartridges without issue.

One star is deducted just because of the condition of the controller and some minor expectations not quite being met, but only one star has been deducted because it was still a positive purchasing experience and I don’t feel like I was cheated or intentionally misled.

All this being said, be advised that these consoles were not designed to be used with the technologies employed in contemporary television sets. You will need to switch your picture to a 4:3 aspect ratio, and you should be prepared for a somewhat rough image. For whatever reason, using this on my smart tv actually makes the picture less clear rather than more. One game I enjoyed as a kid I bought used at the same time as I ordered the console: Jurassic Park Rampage Edition. For illustration of the difference in appearance, I have included a photo of the level selection screen as displayed on a Samsung smart tv as well as a shot of what it is supposed to look like. The “aviary” level name is almost completely illegible on my screen. That being said, so far the lower quality graphics are not so awful that I can’t play the game; it seems to really only affect the smaller details and make some of the stuff a little weird looking. I believe this issue is an artifact of trying to pair such an old console with a radically different display device than it was made for, and not a matter of the machine not being in good shape. This issue I believe is inherent to this scenario and is nobody’s fault, but unless you have a spare tube tv laying around somewhere you should be prepared for something like it. It doesn’t make the games less fun or unplayable by any means, but it is just enough of a distraction that I actually may go to a thrift store and pick up an old tube tv specifically for use with the Sega to see if it improves image quality next time I have a little pocket money. In the meantime I’ll look around online to see if I can find any other means of improving the image on a contemporary television – perhaps somebody has created some sort of adapter or something, I don’t know exactly how it works.

I am pretty happy with the purchase, and once I get a second controller and clean the one I have so it isn’t sticky anymore, I look forward to having my sister come over to hang out and play some of the games we grew up with. But unless we get Sonic 3, she has to be Tails 😛

Update: yes, there are adapters for the problem I mentioned. The one I bought was about 30 bucks and works great, the picture looks just like it ought to.

10 stars to the seller for great packaging and amazing description of the sega, spot on. Great condition, had the same one in 94′ and throws me right back. Have since bought 2 more vintage games including Aladdin and the lion king. My 7 year old son loves the games as well.
