SSD works great now that it’s installed. Didn’t have much luck with the Acronis software you can find on the Western Digital website. Ran for well over 24 hours and didn’t work as a bootable disk. Ended up finding info about DiskGenius online. It worked great and took about 6 hours to clone the original HDD that had 670 gigs used. Went to BIOS to switch things for the new drive, and changed wiring in the desktop. Old PC runs great now!

Reliability of SSDs has been sketchy since 2021. Samsung is no exception and they have one of the worst RMA service ever in Canada. In this context, I chose the next best with a decent RMA service in Canada: Western Digital.
So far, I am quite happy with my purchase. It came in perfect health and is still at perfect health after cloning my old Toshiba HDD on it. So far, so good. My SSD is of the newest generation and was manufactured May 23rd 2023. Speed is as advertised. My computer gets to the log in screen much faster and all the background apps load super fast. Games are impacted too, of course. Initial game launch, loading saved games and loading between levels takes half the time it used to take with my old 7200 rpm HDD. Even the graphics are impacted because textures load much quicker.
One thing I am not so sure about, though, is the Acronis True Image software that is provided. It is rather clunky and people have had problems cloning with it (errors, having to wipe the SSD and try again), so I decided not to use it, especially after I saw that it would hang for over a minute just when I clicked to bring up the cloning tool. That is NOT normal. If it hangs so much on that step, imagine how it will struggle when doing the actual cloning. I wanted to go with the free version of AOMEI, but apparently they have put their cloning tool behind a paywall. I ended up using Macrium True Reflect (free trial), but there are plenty others which would have done just as nicely. I was able to adjust my partitions exactly to my liking.
I hope I got one of the reliable ones and that it will not fail before several years. I will update my review if anything happens.

Nice internal SSD, easy to install and very fast.

I hardly write a negative review but I could not let this one go.
I bought 3 WD BLUE 1TB SSDs, 2 from Amazon and one abroad. Initially I was very happy to revive an old laptop which I use as a plex server. That was the first SSD I bought late July last year. Returning recently from a long trip abroad, I found out it was dead already, so it could have died between the 7th and 11th month after it was installed. LESS THAN A YEAR! I’ve had SSDs from Kingston and Samsung , all are still working great after 3 to 8 years (more than half are over 8 years old!)
The dead SSD could not be recovered or recognized. The WD Dashboard Tool would sometimes momentarily see it but just stops/ hangs. Same with Partition wizard…
Frustrated, I used my spare WD BLUE to reinstall OS and lo and behold, my laptop cannot find a partition! So I used the WD Dashboard to figure out what’s going on – it says there is a new firmware available – so I installed it. STILL DIDN’T WORK! I reformatted the disk using Windows – still NO GO! I used Partition Wizard – still NOTHING!
At this point I’m afraid my laptop may have been damaged. One way to find out is to get either a Kingston or a Samsung – my tried and tested brands. I ordered Samsung, got it today, installed OS with no problem at all to my relief.
So I got 2 dead WD BLUEs – RMA in process.
I got 1 more WD BLUE in another laptop which is abroad and I hope will last long enough for me to replace the SSD before it dies.
And I also got 1 WD GREEN in another laptop which is also abroad and I hope will last long enough, too –
but the GREEN was rated below the BLUE…
What a disappointment this has been as I have had no problems with other Western Digital HDDs. WD should pull these models out of the market as these could cost a lot of wasted time and loss of data for the end users.
Interestingly the price of this particular model has dropped tremendously from a year ago…
Should have believed the negative reviews… NO MORE WD SSDs for me!
I hope this does not happen to anyone else.

I originally purchased a Seagate. I received an error formatting it for the Eufy HomeBase. On the third try it worked. A couple weeks later I received an error that the drive was no longer working. This western digital has been working perfectly now for a few months.

Western Digital 1TB WD Blue SA510 SATA Internal Solid State Drive SSD is awesome. I had a traditional spinning hard drive, one TB in size, and replaced it with the Western Digital 1TB WD Blue SA510 SATA Internal Solid State Drive SSD. Wow! What a difference!!! My old HD made noise and could not processes at the speed of the SSD so my computer was really slow and loud. The new SSD boots super fast, disk cleaning software works almost instantly, since there are no spinning parts – super quiet!!!! Backups take 1/4 of the time. I am amazed and glad I spent the money to upgrade to this SSD technology.

I like the quality. With technology advancing the price should be dropping down sooner or later! I already bought a couple already for my old iMac 27″ to speed up! With the USB casing for SSD it can be used as an external hard drive as well!

I’m new to SSD tech, and my laptop is about 6 years old and was terribly bogged down by Windows 11 background processes — chiefly Windows Search Indexer. So, I thought maybe said I switch out the drives, I won’t have to get an all new computer in these tough economic times.
Short story is that it worked eventually, and the drive is much quicker. When I run chkdsk on it, it does stop and say a couple of error were found, so I’m not exactly feeling totally secure in it, but it does seem to function now that I have it installed.
It wasn’t till after I opened the Dell laptop that I saw that it has a slot for the other type of SSD that doesn’t have this traditional shape and SATA connector — and I read that those are even faster, the ones that look like a skinny motherboard and.plug into a slot. I would have gone with that style had I known. Oh well.
This drive comes with nothing but the drive. So, you’d need a separate USB connector if your laptop only has one drive interface. And then you also have to go to the WD website to download software to do any cloning and backup — it’s called Acronis. And it was tough to work with.
If you are trying to clone via USB, then you have to pull out the original drive and hook that up to the USB cable. And then you have to put the new SSD inside the laptop. If you have two slots none of this matters. But the new drive has to be inside of the computer for it to be made bootable on that computer. Allegedly, it will not boot up if you use any exterior cloning devices. The main problem was that it kept saying it was unable to “lock” the new drive. I tried a bunch of stuff and pulled out an ancient PC to try and get it going. I must’ve tried fitty ‘leven different times, but eventually I did hit the correct combination of elements. Pain in the behind, but it is possible.
Does not make up for a slow processor or display that doesn’t look very good, and battery that won’t hold a charge — but it has refreshed my ability to get work done. Also, turn off Windows Search Indexer. Stupid waste of resources.

Great SSD, stable, great write speeds. Grabbed it to up the storage on my Dell laptop and totally satisfied.
