These 2.5Gb NICs are easy to use. Great compatibility, didn’t need any drivers installed in my systems. Small size means they can fit in almost any system. They come with a low profile bracket. Using your existing Cat5 you can get great value for money with these cards.

I’m a tech, I beta test tech for various companies. So it’s natural for me to test each piece of tech I acquire. I have a custom built pc with the intel 13900, a 4090 gpu connected using 1gig up and down internet speeds. I started having throttling occur on upload, limiting me to 100meg upload speed. So I started troubleshooting, after a week of testing I decided the weakest link was the built in Ethernet adapter, others reported similar issues with my particular motherboard. So I ordered this unit, I’m always an overkill kind of guy with tech, so getting a 2.5g unit seemed appropriate.

The unit arrived quickly, and was simple to install. It worked out of the box but of course I went to their website and upgraded drivers. First series of tests show my ping had been cut more than in half from 20 to 8. The speeds were faster slightly than before although a gig is a gig is a gig. That said, I soon encountered the exact same issue of throttled upload. I found it interesting that it seemed to throttle to 100megs give or take a few. At this time I recognized the issue was either my cable, modem or the actual line to my home. I replaced my Ethernet cord with a new one, and since fiber optic doesn’t usually degrade, it’s unlikely a line issue altho it could be a node issue down the line. Armed with the knowledge I had, I reached out and it was discovered my modem was failing. So even tho this unit didn’t specifically solve my issues, it did allow me to find the cause, and since it is a better ping, that to me is worth the cost of this card. Plus it gives me a backup connection if needed. I will be keeping this card and I will update once I get my new modem, and witness the difference real time. Should I encounter issues going forward I will also update this review.

Ultimately I like this adapter, it’s super simple to install and use and it did improve my connection ping and speeds. If I ever use it to transfer data locally I will also post an updated review on that.

Installed it on my Windows 11 PC, very easy. When I plugged in my ethernet cable, still only 980Mbps with an internet speed test. Hmmm, I have Bell Fibre with a H-4000 router, 1.5Gbps service and CAT 6 cable but no prize. According to the TP-Link support site, the 2.5Gbps light should be flashing but it wasn’t. Long story short, was not plugged into the 10Gbps jack (The silvery one, not yellow) on the router. That was the trick. Download speed test was 1.6Gbps, yay! Works like a champ now. Highly recommend and way cheaper than getting a new motherboard, aka newer PC.

I purchased this adapter to add to my home server to increase the bandwidth available. TP-Link is a trusted name, and this device didn’t disappoint. It arrived with both a tall and short slot cover and my server required the short one. This is the one issue I had with this board. One of the two screw holes on the short adapter wasn’t tapped properly and wouldn’t screw in, leaving the board with only one screw holding the slot cover in place. Highly annoying, but, out of sight, out of mind once the server was back in the rack.

Other than the above issue, this adapter was plug and play and has worked flawlessly. It never fails to connect to my switch at full 2.5gbps speed, and I haven’t experienced any transmission errors even under load. It came with a driver disk (who uses CDs these days?) but it wasn’t needed. Windows 11 recognized the card immediately and it was configured before I could even get into the control panel.

There isn’t much more to say here. Plug it in, connect it, power it up and enjoy the more than doubled bandwidth!

I had no issues installing the card itself and getting it to perform as described in the product description, and I do see greater than 1 Gb/sec download speeds on my PC with this card (when connected to the 2.5 Gbe port on my router) when testing with Speedtest. The only thing that I had to deal with (which is why I knocked it down a star) is that, when installed on a Windows 10 PC and using either the generic Windows 10 built-in ethernet driver or the TP-Link sourced driver, I discovered that if I use sleep mode to turn off my PC the LAN port on the card will turn off–meaning, when I subsequently wake up my PC from sleep mode it will fail to automatically reconnect to my router (and thus, to the internet). I narrowed it down to it most likely being an Ethernet driver issue because when I was using the built-in Intel LAN controller on the motherboard my PC had no problem automatically re-establishing a LAN connection to my router when I woke it up from sleep.

Figuring that it was most likely an issue with the ethernet driver I tried an updated driver I downloaded from the TP-Link website–still the same issue, and yes this is even though I went into Windows Device Manager and unchecked the box for “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power” (more on that part in a moment). I then tried the Realtek ethernet driver for it (downloaded from Realtek’s website)–I first tried the “Win10 Auto Installation Program (NDIS) – Not Support Power Saving” driver since I was thinking I don’t want power saving because I don’t want my ethernet card to go to sleep and thus turn off; you’d think that with that description on the download page it should work–nope, same behavior. I then figured what have I got to lose, and went ahead and downloaded the “Win10 Auto Installation Program (NDIS)” driver–holy smokes, this one apparently did the trick because now when I wake up my PC from sleep the TP-Link LAN card successfully automatically reconnects to my router and establishes an internet connection once again!

Now back to the part about unchecking the box for “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”–oddly enough, with the correct driver in place I (still) had to actually check the box for this setting in order for the TP-Link card to automatically reconnect to my router after waking up my PC from sleep; if I unchecked it, the unwanted behavior returned even with the correct driver in place. Note–you can still leave the box for “Allow the device to wake the computer” unchecked.

I spent hours trying all kinds of different suggested solutions that were offered up on the internet to fix this issue, and am glad I was finally able to figure it out; without this solution/fix my only options were to either do a manual “disable/enable” of the connection in the Windows 10 network settings or reboot my PC (doing the latter would make it pointless to put my PC in sleep mode to begin with). Hopefully this helps out someone who’s running Windows 10 and utilizes sleep mode to turn off their PC.

Product works as described. Found it a bit strange it came with a CD, luckily it was not needed. PC running Windows 11 Pro, device auto detected and started working immediately. Allows me to obtain my full 2Gbps internet speed on my PC. Also included a Low Profile Bracket. Lights on the device indicate network speed (2.5 G, 1000M, and 100/10M).
