We needed an additional wireless laser printer, chose this version for the additional convenience of a scanner/copier function. It was originally sold out, then delayed, but appeared sooner than quoted but it was also “refurbished.” Possibly just re-boxed, everything works normally. Be aware that the “original HP 141A cartridge” is a starter cartridge, good for ~900 prints. HP’s product info can be misleading. That said, a replacement 141A is ~$50, compared to high-volume toner cartridges for other models that run ~$120. If you have a home office or higher volumes, might be better off with a different model that comes with a normal toner cartridge good for 3000+ prints. Lots of warnings that knock-off cartridges must have a HP chip.

As the title says, it prints well and it scans well… when it’s connected to the computer. The wifi connection is great when it works, that is maybe 25% of the time. You cannot have the printer off when you start your computer or it will refuse to connect to your computer despite HP Smart saying that it is connected to your computer. If you don’t have it connected when you start, you might as well forget about printing. There is NO OPTION FOR USB, you have no choice but to use the wireless connection and thus when it doesn’t connect the 75% of the time it doesn’t wanna work, you’re SOL. It is not worth the hassle nor is it worth the ink subscription that you’re basically forced into getting. I would not recommend this printer at all, buy from another company or just go back to inkjet.

I came out of retirement about 24 months ago to assist a former client with a project. My Brother multifunction machine, purchased back in 2017, quit working after updating my notebook’s operating system and I decided it was time to replace to the Brother. I didn’t want to spend more than $200 as the assignment is nearing completion and decided on the HP M140W with wireless printing and scanning abilities. I’ve now been using the HP for about 2 months, having spent less than $150 to meet my needs. I am pleased with my decision. Smaller footprint, good print quality, easy setup, excellent single-page scanning. Everything I needed.

This printer is so much better than my HP Inkjet that was costing me a small fortune in cartridges that would dry up 1 month after installing. This new printer was a little problematic connecting to my wi-fi but I discovered the reason was my Bitdefender Anti-virus software kept trying to connect printer to VPN which was turning my internet connection off. So I turned off the VPN setting and the printer then was able to connect to wi-fi & enable printer to be set up.(It evens says it in the HP Printer Reference Guide to disconnect VPN)

I love this printer. It’s easy to use and the small size is perfect for me since it doesn’t take as much room as my older printer. I recommend this printer especially for the great price.

I’m using this with an iPad. Wireless set up took 1 minute using WPS. You do not have to use the HP Smart app to set-up, print or make copies. You do have to use it to scan. And you do have to give it access to your wireless network to scan. However you do not need it for anything but scanning and you can turn off its’ permission to the network under settings, Privacy, on the iPad. You can tell HP not to annoy you with anything when you set up the account. It cost $99.99 when I bought it in August, so a pretty good deal as my Canon copier (I bought the HP primarily to make copies) has an issue with the laser unit right now. From my quick look at the HP Smart app I judge it, the app, to be somewhat difficult to use but very full featured if that is what you are looking for. This printer/copier/scanner is small, lightweight and fast and very easy to use. For those who say that the app doesn’t work on a desktop, there is a separate piece of software for the desktop machines. And for those who found no directions, you must download the user manual from HP. Just Google “HP LaserJet MFP M140w Wireless Printer user manual” and get it. The quick start guide is in the box as is the power cord. You can attach this printer to a desktop/laptop via USB with the proper cord which is not included.

Overall good printer but NOT suitable for the use of gelli printing. I later learned to get better results the use of color laser printers works best even though you are still printing monochrome because it’s using more toner to transfer on to the plate. Over all good printer but had to return since it won’t work for my intended use

    Some things to note:

-Easy to set up wifi out of box
-Ready to use, just need to take protective film off toner
-You have the option of instant ink subscription and using the free trial
-small in size and doesn’t weigh a lot if you need to move it

-You will need to download the hp smart app if printing from a mobile device

It was easy to set up, the print quality is great, and it is very quiet. I do genealogy, so I need a good printer for documents. This printer is just what I needed. I have always had ink jet printers and if you print much, or don’t print for a while, the ink either runs out or dries up in the cartridge. I have used laser printers in the past as part of my job. They correct these issues. Your documents come out crisp and clear.

Nice little cheap laser printer. I don’t print often, and got tired of inkjet cartridges drying out after almost every use, so decided that a laser printer was cheaper for me in the long run. I needed an all-in-one as I actually use the copy and scan features more than I print. Set up was relatively easy, as I am using it connected via a USB cable as my desktop PC is not wireless capable and is hardwired to the router. I did need to make sure I downloaded the correct software for this direct from the HP site. My Windows 10 computer had no problem recognizing it right away. I have taken a point off as I am not yet sure of the longevity of this cheaper model. I may change this later.

Edit: Adding the extra star. This little printer just works, even if I’ve let it sit for a long period of time. No fussing around trying to get the computer to recognize the printer again if Windows has updated.

2nd Edit: Still working well two years after purchase. I recently bought a new computer running Windows 11 Pro and the computer recognized the printer immediately. A quick software install which I had downloaded from the HP site and it was up and running with no problems. Still connected via USB even although my new computer has wifi as it is generally the easiest install, and I’m the only one using it.
