This item stopped working after I used it about 3 times. Unfortunately the return window has closed. I bought it to transfer some files from old discs that I had. I got through a few of them and the about 2 weeks after I started the project, on my third session, it stopped working.
Don’t buy this junk.

opened the package and plugged it into my Mac. worked as they said. No issues at all, Hopefully this solves my problem of not having a CD player anymore in my MAC. I should have bought this a year ago.

It has been a great addition to my tech accessories. As someone who occasionally needs to access old CDs and DVDs, this drive has proven to be both reliable and convenient.
Pros:
Plug and Play: The setup was incredibly easy. I just plugged it into my laptop’s USB port, and it was ready to go without needing any additional drivers.
Versatile Compatibility: It works seamlessly with my Windows laptop, and I’ve also tested it on a Mac without any issues. It reads and writes CDs and DVDs efficiently.
Portable Design: The drive is lightweight and compact, making it easy to carry around in my bag. Perfect for on-the-go use.
USB 3.0 and Type-C: The inclusion of both USB 3.0 and Type-C connectors is a big plus, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of devices.
Affordable: For the price, it offers excellent value. It’s a cost-effective solution for anyone needing an external optical drive.
Cons:
Build Quality: The plastic casing feels a bit flimsy. While it hasn’t caused any issues so far, I do handle it with care to avoid any potential damage.

This product works great with my laptop. I have used it on a USB hub without any issues. The integral cable is very handy as it folds away under the drive and means that I can’t lose it! (as I am prone to do). The speed seems fine although I haven’t used it for watching movies yet.

I’ve only used it a few times, but it works on my 2019 Macbook Pro and I believe it also works on my windows laptop, but right now I can’t remember. I was able to use it to look at medical docs and it seemed to play a movie alright. I will say, if your computer goes to sleep, it seems to disconnect, but I imagine that’s probably normal of most dvd players. This is my first external dvd player (minus the ones that were for actual TVs) but so far so good.
I love that I can plug it in directly to my macbook through the usb-c option, and there’s even a usb extension chord, which is super cool/convenient if you are using it with the usb option (obviously less-so for the usb-c). It even included an optional micro-usb connection, which I thought was for a phone, but the usb end is male so that clearly isn’t the intention. There is a micro-usb slot on the DVD player to plug it into (shown on the 3rd picture) and the instructions seem to list it as a workaround option (pic #4). Haven’t tried that yet, but it’s super cool that it seems they’ve brought a lot of things into account when designing this product.
I also plugged the usb extender in and placed a standard sized highlighter in picture 3 to help visually with sizing and length, etc. Hope it’s helpful!
I will update this review if anything changes, so if it’s still here it’s still working. That being said, I will rarely be using it, so it may be a while before anything goes wrong that might happen to someone who uses it more frequently. I will still update if anything changes.
