Once upon a time, not that long ago, a dvd drive/writer was a standard feature on a laptop.
Not anymore.
The redesign of today’s laptops/tablets has made this a necessary item if you still use DVDs/CDs, as this function has been determined to be obsolete and almost eliminated entirely in new computers.
This product resolves that absence.
Its slim design allows for easy transporting next to your laptop/tablet.
Not as convenient as when this type of item was built WITHIN a laptop but it handles the job.
Was able to download a free download program from the windows store and was able to play dvds on a newer laptop just fine.
However, an older laptop would not play the dvds and would show an error message.
Could have been because of the age of the computer or because it was not operating on Windows 11.
Whatever the reason, something to be aware of.
This drive could have used some sort of case to carry or keep the drive in, though.
But, none was provided.

Update: After my bad review of this product, the Seller contacted me directly about my issue where my DVD would not eject from the portable external drive. In fact, multiple company personnel reached out to me, anxious to correct the situation and were so apologetic about this issue. The company even noted that they were already improving their quality control processes based on my review. After several back/ forth discussions, I felt that this company was sincere and this issue was a “fluke” that they were already putting quality check procedures in place to safeguard such a thing happening again. I accepted the offer to be sent a replacement product to test out its features. Once, I received the product and retested its features, I am now sufficiently satisfied to attest to the quality and features offered by this product. I have spent a few hours testing out the many (not all) features of this product, and they all work marvelously as claimed. I have inserted and played a DVD directly from the External Drive for about 15 minutes. I then copied this DVD onto my LG Laptop and watched several portions of the COPIED DVD for at least 10-30 minutes. I then placed a NEW blank DVD in the External Drive and burned the copied-to-my-laptop DVD onto the blank DVD on the External Drive. I viewed the burned copied DVD directly from the External Drive and voila, it played nicely. I also played a Music CD from the External Drive with my laptop, copied the CD from the External Drive to my laptop and played the music directly from the copied CD. I have not ventured into all of the additional features. However I am now a “Happy Camper” with the above features working PERFECTLY. I would like to thank the Seller and the entire organization for their passion for excellence surrounding this product and their patience and kindness shown me.

I recently received the External CD/DVD Drive, 8 in 1, with 4 USB Ports, 2 TF/SD Card Slots, USB 3.0, and 2 Type-C ports, and it’s exactly what we needed to play our older DVDs and CDs, especially since our current laptops don’t have built-in disc drives. This device has solved that problem perfectly, allowing us to play our old discs easily, which was particularly exciting for us as we were able to play our wedding videos stored on a disc and download them to my computer for safekeeping. What I love most about this device is that it’s not just a CD/DVD reader and writer, but also an upgraded external drive that functions as a USB hub. I didn’t even realize all the options and compatibility features it offered when I first received it, but it’s been a pleasant surprise. The additional ports and card slots make it incredibly versatile, allowing me to connect multiple devices at once, and the inclusion of both USB and Type-C ports means it’s compatible with a wide range of devices, which is a big plus in our multi-device household. The slim and portable design is another great feature, making it easy to store when not in use. It is working flawlessly with my Windows 10., I’m really impressed with the value for the price. I am glad to have it for both nostalgic purposes, like playing our wedding videos, and practical uses, like accessing older data stored on CDs and DVDs. I highly recommend it to anyone in need of an external drive with added functionality at a very fair price.

I needed a portable cd player for importing photos and videos stored on CD’s. Over the years, I ended up with a ton of family photos that were burned onto cd’s. Unfortunately, cd players built into laptops have gone the way of the dinosaurs. This was really plug and play. No fancy drivers to install and it worked perfectly right out of the box. I would definitely recommend this to others.

For the purpose of importing images and videos from CDs, I required a portable CD player. I ended up having a ton of family images put onto CDs throughout the years. Regretfully, integrated CD players in laptops have become extinct. It was quite simple to plug and play. It installed without any fuss and functioned well right out of the box. Without a doubt, I would advise others to do this.

When I bought my mac pro a while ago, I forgot they didn’t come with CD players or writer so I couldn’t burn any CDs for clients. Every now and then, someone will ask my to burn a copy of their recording session or their music and I’ve had to use Dropbox….until now! This thins is great! It is just plug and play without any extra software to install.
Right out of the box, I plugged it in, loaded a cd, and it loaded and played perfectly. It’s a fairly quick drive and I was able to read both CD’s and CD-R types. The mac recognized it as a cd drive and Toast recognized it as a burnable drive. This thing does have USB ports on it but they don’t really generate too much power. Best to stick to just charging stuff with those, or perhaps just a memory card. I attempted to connect my MIDI controller to it and it just pulsed on and off. Not enough buss power to power up devices but it does charge my phone. Overall, pretty awesome addition if you have a need for CD’s and your current computer doesn’t have a cd drive. Im happy I get to listen to my old cd’s again!
